Diane Covington-Carter graduated from UCLA, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology and a minor in French. She completed journalism courses at Ventura College and American River College in Sacramento.

Covington-Carter has received many journalism and writing awards including:

2020 Willa Award Finalist for “Beautiful Courage, A Young Woman’s Journey West, 1852,” her debut Young Adult novel

2020 Lowell Thomas Journalism Award for her essay in the Los Angeles Times, June 2109, for the 75th anniversary of D-Day

2020 Bronze Award, Society of American Travel Writers, Western Chapter, for her France Today photo essay, June 2019, for the 75th anniversary of D-Day

2019 Gold Award, Society of American Travel Writers, Western Chapter, for her memoir, “Finding Gilbert, A Promise Fulfilled,” (2018)

Her writing has appeared in Hemispheres, Sierra, Reader’s Digest, Wine Dine and Travel, The Sun, More Magazine, Organic Spa, Ventana Monthly, Sierra Alive, Sierra Heritage, Coast Kids, Celtic Heritage and other magazines.

She has also been featured in The Los Angeles Times, The Napa Valley Register, the Sacramento Bee, the San Diego Union Tribune, The Ventura County Star, The Union, The Santa Rosa Press Democrat and the Honolulu Star Tribune, among other newspapers.

Her 2004 NPR series for the 60th anniversary of D-Day won an award from the Society for Professional Journalists.

Covington-Carter is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers and Bay Area Travel Writers.

She teaches Creative Writing internationally and is a Writing Coach and Professional Editor for a few select clients.

Covington-Carter lives with her husband on Willow Valley Farm, an organic apple farm in Northern California and enjoys photographing the natural beauty around her. They also live in Golden Bay, New Zealand, when they are not off having great travel adventures.
